wednesday wishes: big bucks

i spent far too much time on 1st Dibs last night…to the point where i started thinking 2 grand for a lamp was reasonable. have you ever been over there? i’ve never spent too much time poking around because i knew it was out of my league and would just be frustrating. but it’s kind of amazing. i mean… louis the XVI painted daybed? they have those. art deco chevron mirrored credenza? yep.

so for a second, let’s pretend i’ve won the powerball and look at my shopping list. (i didn’t include any prices. they’re just too shocking and didn’t want anyone to faint onto their keyboard. besides it ruins the fun.)

Bakalowits & Sohne “Miracle” Chandelier

Pair of Edward Wormley armchairs

George Nelson Rosewood Dresser

“Cheating At Poker” Carnival or Circus Sideshow Banner
groovy right?!?!?
but what do you guys think? i had a friend that would only buy brand new things…no vintage clothes, antiques or thrift store finds. she didn’t like getting hand me downs and got creeped out by thinking about all the people who once owned that item who are now dead. (morbid much?) personally, i love the thrill of the hunt …digging through crowded junk stores (or websites) for some buried treasure.
are you big antiques buyers? do you love things with age and history? what are your treasured vintage finds?

Oh, 1stdibs is depressing. I spent a day there once and vowed to never go back lest I want a wish list that totals to the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I love antique and vintage stuff! I'm going antique-ing this weekend and can't wait. I love that things can have a story before me (like my 1920s engagement ring), but it also makes me feel less guilty about wanting so much when it's not brand new.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that site, but completely out of my budget as well! That light fixture is exquisite…Janell

I haven't heard of this site, but I love to look, even if I can't afford :)

Love the light…

I think I have the opposite problem, I have a hard time buying something brand new…I love buying or hunting for treasures.

I love 1st dibs! I totally wish I won the lottery so I could furnish my house completely with their pieces :)

I love digging.

I would only go to 1stDibs for inspiration, not for acquisition.
